Strikers Shutout Falcons Austin Tindal, Fla.- The Strikers shutout the Orlando Falcons, 4-0, to keep their winning streak alive. This is the thrid win in a row for the Strikers with only two games remaining in their regular season. The Strikers had to battle the Falcon's offsides trap to get some clean breakaways on goal. Katie Green was the first to finish one of the breakaways to give the Strikers the lead. The second goal came before the half by Jacie Henderson. Toni Pressley added two goals in the second half for the 4-0 win. The Strikers face Miami Surf this Friday and South Florida Breeze on Saturday to conclude their season. They are now 4-3-1 in the region.

Sanford,FL.The Central Florida Strikers came from behind against hometown rivals, the Orlando Falcons, to come away with another win 2-1. The Falcons were able to take the lead the first half and net their only shot on goal.

Down 1-0, the Strikers came out the second half to keep possession and control of the game. They out shot the Falcons 18-2. Audia Sullivan, from the University of West Florida, tied up the game with a shot outside the box. The game-winning goal came two minutes later from a corner kick headed in by another UWF player, Brianna Oeser.

The Strikers season is coming to a close and they will face the Falcons again this Friday at the Falcons home field.

Strikers Break Even - Monday, June 19, 2006

st1:place>Boston, Mass.The Central Florida Strikers traveled up to Boston this weekend to face the Bay State Select of the Women’s Premier Soccer League. The game ended in a high scoring tie, 4-4. The Strikers dominated on the field but were not able to finish with a win. They out shot the Select 18-10.

Led by Captains Kim Montgomery and Erin Baxter-McCorkle, the Strikers were able to tie the Select in the last minute of the game.Montgomery scored a hat trick, and Baxter followed with the fourth goal to tie the game.

Tampa Remains Undefeated

Sanford, Fla. – The Strikers faced Tampa Bay Elite after losing 0-3 two weeks ago in Tampa, and ended the game with similar results. Tampa strung together several passes and attacks on goal to out shoot the Strikers and come away with a 3-2 win.

The Strikers took the lead early in the first ten minutes of play. Brianna Oeser took a cross out of the air from Holly Peltzer and headed it past the Tampa defense, but Tampa countered and put three goals away before the half was over. In the second half, Peltzer drove a penalty kick into the net to decrease Tampa’s lead and make it a fight to the end.

Tampa’s Cynthia Schofield had one goal and two assists. Tampa now moves up to 4-0 in the Region, Strikers 1-2.

Strikers Make History

o:p> st1:place w:st="on">Sanford, FL- On their home turf, the Central Florida Strikers mark their first win in the WPSL, 3-0, against Palm Beach United. With a strong defense, held together by Erin McCorkle, the Strikers were able to put together several dangerous attacks on goal.

Twenty minutes into the match Brianna Oeser took a through ball from Erin Davis and scored the first goal of the season. Katie Green racked up a goal and assist to Angela Gayo who scored on a header.

The Strikers have a chance for a rematch against Tampa Bay Elite June 4, 2:00 pm.

Strikers Open Against Eastern Champs

Sanford,FL (5/20/6) The Central Florida Strikers open their inaugural season in the Women’s Premier Soccer League with a loss to the Eastern Conference Champions in 2003, the New England Mutiny. The Mutiny, with twice as many shots on goal as the Strikers, capitalized on their opportunities and put away four goals. The No. 19 internationally ranked Mutiny held their run to shutout the Strikers, 4-0.

The first goal came in the 26th minute of play off the head of Mutiny’s Rachel LeDuca. The Strikers keepers, Dimi Poulos and Lauren Hudson, help the defense hold off the Mutiny’s attack. The Strikers continued to battle but could not find the back of the net.

Sunday vs. Tampa
Tampa Takes First Regional Match

Tamps, Fla. (5/21/06) The Strikers faced Tampa Bay Elite for their first Regional match ending 0-3, another scoreless match for the Strikers. Both teams, new to the WPSL, held a tight defense the first half allowing no goals.

Tampa’s Jen Shannon-Martin managed to get a head on a free kick to break the tie in the second half and put the Elite on the board. Arielle Orr came away with the two assists of the match.

The Strikers finish their first weekend of games, 0-2, and 0-1 in the Region. They face Tampa again, as well as Palm Beach United, June 3 and 4 for their next Regional matches.
